Apache Geronimo
The goal of the Geronimo project is to produce a server runtime framework that pulls together the best Open Source alternatives to create runtimes that meet the needs of developers and system administrators. Our most popular distribution is a fully certified J2EE 1.4 application server runtime. We are working on our next version of the server which is based on Java EE 5.

Apache Tomcat
Apache Tomcat is the servlet container that is used in the official Reference Implementation for the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages technologies. The Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages specifications are developed by Sun under the Java Community Process. Apache Tomcat is developed in an open and participatory environment and released under the Apache Software License. Apache Tomcat is intended to be a collaboration of the best-of-breed developers from around the world. We invite you to participate in this open development project. To learn more about getting involved, click here. Apache Tomcat powers numerous large-scale, mission-critical web applications across a diverse range of industries and organizations. Some of these users and their stories are listed on the PoweredBy wiki page.

Enhydra
Enhydra Server is an Open Source Java application and webservice server including standard Apache Tomcat (or alternatively Jetty) and Apache Axis with a very big difference ! While the servlet API is used to support presentation logic, the platform contains just about all enterprise level services to build extreme high volume web sites in an n-tier architecture. The architecture is designed for perfomance and in tests we showed incredible performance numbers ! Many Enhydra servers are powering the Web today, some catering to millions of transactions a day. One of the most talked about features of Enhydra is its Enhydra XMLC technology - an object-oriented standards based replacement for JSP that completely separates the designer and developer. In addition, Enhydra includes a relational-to-object mapping tool (Enhydra DODS), Enhydra Workflow (Shark and JaWE), clustering web server extensions for Apache, IIS and IPlanet and much more.

GlassFish
The GlassFish community is building free, open source, production-quality, enterprise software. The main deliverables are an Application Server, the Java EE 5 Reference Implementation, and the Java Persistence API Reference Implementation, TopLink Essentials. The community also delivers Maven Repository, tools and much more.

JBoss
The JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite delivers a cohesive suite of market-leading open source middleware products that can be used alone, mixed and matched, or combined to build and deploy applications, business processes, and Web services.

Jetty
Jetty is a 100% Java HTTP Server and Servlet Container. This means that you do not need to configure and run a separate web server (like Apache) in order to use java, servlets and JSPs to generate dynamic content. Jetty is a fully featured web server for static and dynamic content. Unlike separate server/container solutions, this means that your web server and web application run in the same process, without interconnection overheads and complications. Furthermore, as a pure java component, Jetty can be simply included in your application for demonstration, distribution or deployment. Jetty is available on all Java supported platforms.
